Huge rally happening in Victoria Oct 13th- Please carpool or bus out to join us in demanding the BC Liberals stop logging our old-growth!
Big Trees, Not Big Stumps!
Rally for Ancient Forests and to Ban Raw Log
Exports!
Saturday, October 13, 2007
Victoria, BC
11:30 am Meet at Centennial Square, then march with drumming
band
12:00 noon Arrive at Legislative Buildings for speeches and fun!
TAKE PART in the "ANCIENT FOREST FALLDOWN", where 73% of the
people will "fall" down (or sit down) at the rally, representing
the loss of 73% of Vancouver
Island's old-growth forests!
The BC government will be releasing a Coastal Old-Growth Strategy
in the coming months, for the first time in almost 20 years. A
good
turn out at the rally will let them know that they'll get lots of
public
THANKS if they make a good plan - or face a hell of a FIGHT if
they make a bad plan that allows the continued liquidation of our
last southern coastal ancient forests.
We need absolutely every concerned citizen at this pivotal
rally for the ancient forests of Vancouver Island and the
Southwest Mainland
and to ban raw log exports! If you truly care about the
fate of our spectacular old-growth forests and for BC jobs, then
make it a FIRST RATE PRIORITY to get down to this brief rally!
People in communities across Vancouver Island, from the Lower
Mainland, from the Gulf Islands, and anywhere in the world are
encouraged to attend!
At least 73% of the productive old-growth forests on Vancouver
Island have been logged, including 90% of the valley bottoms
where the largest trees grow. A similar situation exists in the
Southwest Mainland, where at one time there were over 1000
spotted owls. Today, due to the logging of their old-growth
habitat, there are only 16 individuals left. Enough is enough!
With so little left on the south coast, it's time to save the
remaining old-growth forests, log the second-growth forests
sustainably, and ban raw log exports to protect the jobs of BC
forestry workers.
A good turnout is key. Please email us back at wc2vic@island.net
if you can come and if you can bring any friends or family, so we
can get a sense of our numbers.
***If you're coming from Vancouver, you can take a 9 am ferry
from Tsawassen, with a Pacific Coach Line bus that will
take you straight downtown by 11:30 am. Or arrange carpools with
friends.
Also, wherever you live on this planet, PLEASE WRITE a LETTER!
Do letters help? YES! Every letter politicians get represents
hundreds of others who feel the same way.
Handwritten letters are better than emails. Make sure you include
your home mailing address so they know you're a real person.

Let the BC Liberal government know if you think it should:
- Enact a short timeline to end the logging of old-growth forests
on Vancouver Island and the Southwest Mainland where old-growth
forests are scarce, in order to protect wildlife, tourism, and
the climate.
- Ensure that second-growth forests are logged sustainably.
- Ban raw log exports to foreign mills in order to protect BC
forestry jobs.
And please HOST an ANCIENT FOREST POTLUCK!
Invite friends over and get everyone to write a letter about
ending old-growth logging on Vancouver Island and the Southwest
Mainland of BC. Download our Old-Growth Action Guide and a blank
